Nurse Residency Program

To facilitate the new graduate nurse transition to practice

New Graduates are often overwhelmed in the practice setting which leads to:

Concerns about quality and safety of practice

High Turnover rates

New Graduate Nurse Transition Studies

Studies on transition to practice show that new graduates experience the lowest confidence at the 6 month period and that transition to practice was facilitated by:

  • Enhanced on-boarding experience
  • Support from peers: resident cohorts, providing a peer network
  • Support from experienced unit staff: promotes transition to the workplace and professional role
  • Support from clinical experts: promotes professional development and lifelong learning
